Out, Damn'd Spot!

From Banished
Please don't wait until February to see the documentary, Banished: American Ethnic Cleansings, when it will predictably air on PBS.

Relaying white expulsions of Black citizens from a number of small towns and their subsequent expropriation of Black-owned property, Banished is a wonderfully paced, suspenseful and well-researched film revealing the barriers to Black wealth building and freedom of movement in the early twentieth century and today. For those of you in New York, Banished is showing at the Film Forum and producer/director Marco Williams will be at this evening's 8pm showing. For those elsewhere, check the film's web site for updates on future screenings (or to organize a screening in your neck of the woods) and check out Buried in the Bitter Waters: The Hidden History of Racial Cleansing in America by Banished talking head, journalist Elliot Jaspin.
