Regarding Tony

Terry, that is.

I have found myself listening to Tony Terry's "Everylasting Love" a lot lately. Although a hit, the ballad always seemed to be overshadowed by Terry's earlier hit, I consider them both R&B classics but if pushed to choose between the two I'd probably go with "Everlasting Love." It could be that Quiet Storm over rotation has soured me to "With You," to the benefit of "Everlasting Love." It could be that I'm predisposed to side with the underdog even if the spread is not all that particularly wide. Whatever the cause, "Everlasting Love" was just a very good sound. It's not inventive or challenging and now it comes across dated but I'm not always looking for music to transport, sometimes I just want it to place. And this shit just takes me back. It's really a vocal showcase, which I sort of miss in producer-prominent R&B records today. Terry's since abandoned R&B for gospel but we can always reminisce:
