SUPER DEPRESSED

The Colts won, the Bears lost and the rest of us are stuck with a lot of free time on Sundays...

Today’s just about the best day of the entire year to catch a case of the Mondays. To start, the temperature’s barely in the double-digits here in New York City and the forecast for the rest of the week actually said, “Doesn’t look much better,” on the news this morning. Brrrrr. The wind chill this weekend locked the kid up for the most part, too, and didn’t do much for the Saturday night plans. And the Bears lost — so I lost…a few bucks and, uh, a whole lot of pride (Okay, okay, so I picked the Colts last week, but Ray Lewis was so convincing when he talked about Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher shutting down Peyton Manning before the game!). But that’s not the worst of it. For the first time since August, I’d give almost anything to catch one of those annoying ESPN Monday Night Football ads — you know, the ones they play 300 times on Monday morning during Sportscenter.

‘Cause it was quiet this morning. Too quiet. So let’s keep talking...

How did the Bears manage to get a kickoff return for a touchdown, a Peyton Manning interception and a fumble recovery — all in the first quarter — and only walk away with a 14-6 advantage?

Wouldn't Bears fans have preferred interceptions to fumbled snaps? Come on, Rex.

How did the Bears manage to give up so many third-down conversions to the Colts? Especially in the rain.

Wasn’t Prince’s performance in the rain better than almost all of the recent SB halftime shows? Almost makes you forget about that other, um, performance a couple years ago. Almost.

And now that they’ve played a Super Bowl in the rain, will the NFL at least consider taking its biggest game to a city that doesn’t have warm temperatures or a dome? Picture yesterday’s game in Chicago. Maybe the quasi-celebrities would stay at home.

No offense, but shouldn’t John Madden and Al Michaels automatically play a role in the Super Bowl every year?

Who's gonna show up on the cover of Madden 2008?

Wasn’t the Colts win almost anticlimactic? Congratulations to Tony Dungy, Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and the rest of the Indianapolis Colts. But the way they played last night, there was no doubt as to who should come out on top.

And, as much as I hate to admit it, don’t we all need a little break from Sean Salisbury, Michael Irvin, and football in general?

Bring on March Madness!

Extra Points:

After last night's game, more people searched on Yahoo! for Colts safety Bob Sanders than Prince. (Peep the large number of folks trying to get their Roman numeral game on, too.)

For those of you who missed it, Jay-Z and Don Shula linked up for a Budweiser Select commercial during the game last night:

Catch that commercial and others on MySpace now.

And in other Jay-Z/football news, Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs had his Reebok S. Carter cleats shipped off to the Hall of Fame last month. Johnson rushed more times than any other back in NFL history in the cleats this season.

Props to Reebok for lacing VIBE with this exclusive photo of the cleats.
