Saturday Night Fights
"No drinking, no smoking, no sex..." Mixed martial arts sure sounds like boxing to me.
It wouldn't be crazy for me to say that MMA has already become my generation's version of boxing. Mostly because SI, ESPN and countless other spots have already said it. But I'm genuinely surprised at how excited I am to see this match on Saturday night. Truthfully, I've tried to get up for Mayweather/De La Hoya and I've half-heartedly gotten excited for Bernard Hopkins matches, but I haven't been looking forward to a boxing match as much as Kimbo Slice's MMA network debut since Lennox Lewis last fought Mike Tyson (a match that, admittedly, pretty much turned me off to boxing). As a casual boxing fan, I like watching big matches on big stages. Kimbo's match on CBS this Saturday night is catering to that.
If you haven't watched 'em yet--and you're trying to make it to 5PM without nodding out--do yourself a favor and head over to YouTube and search "Kimbo Slice." I'm usually not into watching YouTube fights, but this guy is a beast. Still, check the video above and you'll see that he's almost a lock to be an MMA superstar. Get on the bandwagon now, folks.
