Gilbert Being Gilbert

Slumping economy? Said who!? If anyone on the staff of MTV Cribs is reading this, write this down: Gilbert Arenas's pool.

It's what the poor saps complaining about gas prices people wanna see. Believe me!

Bloggin' About Bloggin'

Real talk (and I don't even use the phrase "real talk"): Most blogs done by athletes aren't very good. They range from those that don't let you in on enough about the athlete ("I worked out today"--no shit, really?!) to those that reveal just a little bit too much (Hello, Gilbert--you're so weird!).

Channing Frye's, simply put, is awesome. Now, I really couldn't have cared less about Channing Frye five minutes ago. He was on the Knicks, now on the Portland Trailblazers. He was in VIBE's first NBA preview back in November 2006 and I think that was the last time I spent any time thinking about Channing Frye. But then I got word of his blog and, wouldn't you know, this guy is about to be in our next NBA preview in November. (okay, maybe not...but maybe yes) 'Cause I don't if he's just been hanging out with teammate and fellow blogger Greg Oden or something but he's actually grown a really interesting personality!

Like when he reviews Batman: "Seriously, if you have to go beg on the side of the street for an extra $10 bucks to go see this movie, do it. Don't waste time seeing Wall-E, cuz it sucks and was boring. If you don't like it, I'll slap you with a spoon."

Or Hancock: "I went in there expecting to be disappointed and came out like a little girl with a brand new my little pony."

Or partying in Portland: "Y'all love to not only party but have dress-up parties."

The guy is FILLED with one-liners that accomplish what I (and every other sports fan out there) wants from a blog written by an athlete: Some sense that the athlete actually, you know, WRITES the blog and doesn't just have someone tailing behind him or her with a pen and a pad. Plus, he just posted a fairly disgusting video of his Lasik eye surgery (is nothing too sacred for YouTube?).

Channing Frye...who knew?
