Welcome to
Sides Dishes, your weekly serving of soul. I was inspired to pitch this column by the sheer volume of soul music that's circulating these days. R&B never went away - since its rise in the 1960s, it's formed an integral part to American popular music ever since, whether you're talking rap, rock, reggae, etc. But in recent years, it seems like soul has become more resonant than ever, coloring the sound of new music and cycling back into popular consciousness through reissues and anthologies.
Side Dishes is meant as a dip into that rich and deep pool of music out there, highlighting some choice cuts for your enjoyment and illumination.
Our inaugural selection should be by the end of the weekend. Stay tuned...
