Swizz Beatz Beats Kanye West to the Chris Martin Punch
Swizz Beatz ft. Chris Martin: "Part of the Plan"
from the forthcoming One Man Band Man
I wish I had more time to write about this and consider the greater Swizz Beatz questions — namely he's about to release the best rap album of 2007 and he's among the most non-rapperly rappers in the world. Huh? Well, he's got Chris Martin (sampled from Coldplay's "X&Y") on his album before Kanye, though not before Jay-Z, on this admittedly twee track. He also has my favorite song to drive to in the world right now ("Top Down"), one of the dopest remixes of the year ("It's Me, Bitches" feat. Lil Wayne, Kells and Jada), the best annoying club record loved by my girlfriend ("Money in the Bank") — always a good sign, and another potential hit in the Bill Withers-sampling "Take a Picture." Not to mention Cassidy's bubbling "My Drink and My Two Step" and Eve's quasi-appealing Here I Am coming soon.
I'm headed out of town for the next 10 days, and updates have been sparser here than I'd like. I've had few opportunities to opine, feature less-heard records, be a web asshole, etc. Hopefully when I get back I'll get a chance. I'm not holding my breath though, this day job has got a dude feeling woozy.
