Re-Upping For 2008
Liva & Sandman: "Where The Cash At?"
Liva & Sandman: "Dope Dealers (Go Gettas)"
We Got It 4 Cheap Vol. 3 can't come soon enough. No fake R. Kelly singing though, OK? Thanks, fellas.
See y'all in 2008, when the blogging will be more regular and hopefully the raps a lot better.
Janet Jackson: Back and Colder Than Ever
Tags: Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson: "Feedback"
from her untitled forthcoming album
Pure pop. Pure Britney. Pure dance. Puerile? Not quite. The texture of Janet Jackson's now-leaking new single "Feedback" is smooth, cold, flat, precise, like an impossible-to-crack safe filled to the brim with diamonds and pearls. And the singing patterns and inflections sound Rihanna-inspired, probably a wise move for a popular singer never celebrated for her, um, singing. At worst, this is an attention-getter and that's a good thing as Janet's coming off her worst-selling album. At best, it's yet another in a long line of Robo-soul that's blown this year. Long live pitch correct.
The-Dream: Best That Ever Did It?
The-Dream: "She Needs My Love"
from Love Hate (Def Jam)
If every album I reviewed were The-Dream's Love Hate, my job would awesome. Check that, if every abum ever were Love Hate, that would be awesome.
Ghostface Killah: Still Rapping
Ghostface Killah: "Supa GFK"
from The Big Doe Rehab
Ghostface Killah: "The Champ" (Original Version)
from the Fishscale sessions
Cormega feat. Ghostface Killah: "Tony/Montana"
from Legal Hustle
Cassius feat. Ghostface Killah: "Thrilla"
from Au Reve
A less than breathless reading of The Big Doe Rehab over here. Above, the entrancing "Supa GFK" and some favorite Starks odds and ends.
Rick Ross: '80s Baby
Rick Ross feat. Lil Jon: "Drought" (Produced by Mannie Fresh)
from the forthcoming Trilla (Def Jam)
And so now Tears For Fears is ripe for pillaging. Rick Ross, who has been magically unexcoriated for being a middling-at-best rapper in his short history, has teamed with Mannie Fresh, oddly absent since he signed with Def Jam South, for "Drought," which samples TFF's 1985 hit "Shout." No words.
