50 Cent Gets Gully With a Magazine?
Radar is claiming that 50 Cent tried to flex his strongarm on Elliott Wilson, the editor of XXL Magazine for printing an interview with a rival.
Just as we explained the last time the G-Unit general was rumored to try something like this, hip-hop is a high school, and 50 Cent is the lunchroom bully. Wilson and his magazine play the Tootie character, rollerskating between classmates, spreading drama.
In the current issue of XXL, Wilson (who calls himself "Yellow Nigger") did an interview with Chaz "Slim" Williams, former manager of 50 and current CEO of Blackhand Entertainment. Chaz was angry at some accusations recently lobbied by his old client, so he used the platform of the interview to air out 50's gangsta.
According to Radar, when Mr. Cent heard about the unflattering interview, he called up Wilson at the XXL offices and threatened to pull advertising out of the magazine if the story ran. To continue the high school metaphor, this is like the bully taxing the gossip girl for her snack money unless she promises to stay out of his B.I.
Oh, the drama of it all.
Well, the story did run, and now the plot thickens. Even though the magazine never told Radar "yup" or "nope" regarding the truthiness of the rumor, one of XXL's bloggers wrote about the incident. For some reason the blog post was yanked from the site the same day, but it lives on forever in cache form (props to Oh Word and Google for the perma-save - there is no delete button on the web, y'know).
We think it's kinda funny that XXL would stand up for a controversial story in the mag, but fold on one that appears on the web. Where's the new media love?
And by the way - Lloyd Banks' Rotten Apple is in stores now. Cop that - it's probably better than you think.
