Is Rosario Dawson Jay-Z’s “Lost One” Girl?
In Jay-Z’s “Lost One,” the most personal song off his Kingdom Come album, the second verse speaks about a girlfirend who Jay lets leave because she wants to focus on her career. He never reveals the woman’s name, but the first thought that comes to most minds is that Jay is writing about Beyoncé, whose superstar status as a singer and actress probably steals more of her focus than Mr. Carter would like.
Of course, that theory is probably wrong. Other than the song, there’s no indication that Jayoncé have broken up (thank the rap gods!).
There are other candidates who fit the description in the verse. Here are our picks based on Jay’s known and rumored girlfriends:
Carmen Bryan:

She claims she dated Jay in her book, It’s No Secret, and Jay basically confirms this in his dis song “Super Ugly,” where he uses their relationship as a taunt to get at Nas. However, we doubt Jay would write a remorseful verse about their relationship now that Nas is his BFF and Carmen has resorted to throwing dirt on both of them to make a book buck.
Free:

Since her days hosting 106 & Park, Free has been linked to Jay-Z as a girlfriend or at least an occasional jump-off. There were even persistent rumors that Free was carrying Jay’s baby. If Free was born in 1968, as listed on IMDB, then her age and career takeoff doesn’t match the “at 23” reference in “Lost Ones.”
Rosario Dawson:

The NY-bred child actor who got her big break in the film Kids revealed that Jay-Z was her first boyfriend in an interview with Complex magazine. Yahoo! Movies’ bio on Rosario has them dating between 2000 and 2002, breaking up when Rosario was 23—the same girlfriend age that Jay drops in his lyrics. IMDB lists six films that Rosario appeared in during 2002, including Men in Black and 25th Hour. That heavy movie workload seems to fit Jay-Z’s description of a girlfriend who’s too busy with her breakout career to be bothered with a boyfriend.
We think we have a winner here! Rosario Dawson is most likely Jay-Z's "Lost One" girl, not Beyoncé.
Read the lyrics, watch the video, and tell us what you think in the comments.
Jay-Z, “Lost One,” verse 2:
I don’t think it’s meant to be, “we” ’Cause she loves her work more than she does me And honestly, at 23 I would probably love my work more than I did she So “we” ain’t “we,” It’s “me and her,” ’Cause what she prefers over me is work And that’s where we differ So I have to give her free time even if it hurts So breathe, mommy, it’s deserved You been put on this earth to be all you can be like the Reserves And me, my timing is on me, it serves So I have to allow she her time to serve The time’s now for her In time she’ll mature And maybe we can be “we” again like we were Finally, my time’s too short to share And to ask her now it ain’t fair, so yeah...

If he's said it's about B, I think it's settled. Makes sense, when you think about it. I hope they're still going strong, at least Beyonce's Bday included a whole host of love songs where she for example sings "I love you more than music, I'd rather be kissing you" (In "Still In Love") plus she acknowledges this in Flaws And All, where she sings "I neglect you when I'm working". So case closed, more power to Jayoncé

THe song IS about Beyonce, Jay admitted it on one of those shows, I can't remember, but he said that it was an old emotion and that if u listen he said she was 23, then he said, she's 25 now! ANd he has been dating Beyonce since around early 2002, got pictures of them to prove it! He aint talking about no Rosario Dawson or nobody else, he talking about BEYONCE, here is the part that says it ALL::
MAYBE WE CAN BE WE AGAIN LIKE WE WERE BEFORE!
Now WHY would this man say that to another woman he dated years ago and he is in a relationship with Beyonce???? Come on , use common sense!!! That man aint thinking about no Rosario Dawson, not alone sitting down writing songs about her!!!

(I think Jay-z wants to show b that he can write evil songs about her too. She needs to stop singing songs like you just don't know about me and let's go little kitty cat .) Jay needs to write more songs before Beyonce keeps trashing him or brake up .

Okay first off I never heard him when he admitted that this was about Beyonce, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put it together because of the whole "B" part. (And to address the person saying Jay gave her that pet name-Her family gave her that name not Jay). Secondly, Beyonce and Jay began whatever it is they have in 2003-i.e. 03 Bonnie and Clyde and Crazy in Love. This undoubtedly places Miss Beyonce at the tender age of 22. So just as easy as it is to know its about her I can see where one believes it isn't after all, Ros did Lose One and Beyonce gained. However, its upsetting that anyone would even write that it could be about the Ho that is Carmen or Granny Free. Last I checked Beyonce (and no disrespect to Ros) is far more busy than she so mayB it wasn't meant to be for he and she but for he and B.

Ok first off, who the hell cares?? He is very personal and I personally haven't heard him say it was about Beyonce but it makes since because of the "B" part. (In which her family began calling her not Jay). Secondly, Jay and B began whatever it is they have in 2003, i.e. Crazy in Love--03 Bonnie and Clyde, which puts Miss B at the tender age of 22--not 23. So one could assume B, but it wouldn't be far fetched if he is referring to Ros, after all she is the one who LOST ONE. B, into career in all hasn't lost him. Whether about B or Ros, I am more pissed that the author of that article had nerve to even bring up the ho that is Carmen, or the grandma that is Free.

It's abot B, for she loves her music more than she does he (2yrs. ago). He wrote the song 2 yrs ago. He and Dame split like Ben & J-lo and his nephew passed 2 yrs. ago. B's 25-2=23. Things changed and worked out I'm happy for them.

He' s said in about five different interviews that it was about Beyonce but It was " an old emotion" he said, Where have ya'll been? Plus everything he talked about happened two years ago and Beyonce was 23 two years ago. He also said he would never talk about her again in his music when he was on Angie Martinez show because people keep asking about them and think that it's ok because he brought it up.

I don't see why it's so hard to believe that he is in fact talking about Rosario. As guarded, discreet and private as he's been about the relationship with 'B', I never understood in the first place why he'd put a song like this out there eluding to her. It makes so much more sense to me that he'd write this song about someone else from his past (Rosario) and let us all believe - and ASSume - that it's Bey he's talking about. Makes a lot more sense to me, but to each his own.

I agree with the two of these guys. Im a Rosario fan, but in 06, who would care.? Also think about it..."B" has been her pet name from jay in all of there 'duets.' Why is the author even tyhanking the "hip hop gods" that he wasn't talking about beyonce? Im a huge B fan too, but she is not above being put out there in a song! Jay is getting up there in age and like any other person, he's ready for a child and family of his own. He can't take all of his fortunes to heaven with him when he goes. He undoubtedly loves her, but he's ready for a new lifestyle...one that consists of baby strollers and enfamil, not so much hangar tours and bottles of cris.

No dumb asses. The correct quote is "I don't think its meant to be, B." If you had paid the extra $5 for the deluxe cd that came with the words you would have seen that and wouldn't have to print this nonsense. Really? You really thought that in 2006 he released a song about Rosario Dawson?

Ace says:
Whaddup. DUring Jay's recent "hangar" mini-tour, he said that he wrote "lost ones" a while ago and that the song is indeed about Beyonce. Said that he wanted more when they initially got together, but she was heavy into her career. So, if he's talkin the truth, that should end that.
