i think most people on here got the wrong idea of what the homie nas was sayin. when he said hip hop was dead he mean as far as these new rappers. a lot of new rappers don't pay homage and respect to the legends of the game. like nas said on hip hop is dead. ok let's see who the baddest, who can quote a daddy kane line the fastest. on the song "where are they now" he sayin that a lot of young and new age rappers don't know the culture of hip hop. that's not to say that these young up and coming rappers aren't talented but that don't not all but most don't pay tribute to those who made hip hop what it is. believe me the south has talent. eg: Lil Wayne, T.I., B.G., Luda, Juvie, ect. the south have some heavy hitters believe me. but look into what some of yall sayin. get ya info. straight. he wasn't disrespecting anyones ability.

Jeezy = Coke Dealer, saved his funds, made a label. Now all the wanna-be dope dealers in the south listen to him and dream of big rims and chevys. No where else does his music apply. There is no knowledge in Jeezy's music. I sell dope. that doesnt mean im going to start making albums about it and calling myself a great hip hop artist.

Nas = amazing. Simply amazing. The first time I head Illmatic in the 90s i couldnt put it down. As a matter of fact, it STILL ranks as my TOP album. I don't think I've listened to nas for quite some time but ask me what the greatest album Lyrically is EVER and youll get the same answer : Illmatic. The greatest Beef album ever : Stillmatic.

said and done nas is a mother f*cking poet of the game. Even today I subconciously use Nas' lyrics in every day life, because they STICK WITH YOU. Those are the greatest artists. The ones who drop a rhyme that you'll NEVER forget.

I don't really think hip-hop is dead.But it is slowly dying. It's just that you young punks only accept what's on the radio. Somebody like Lloyd Banks or Jim Jones might come out with a good one or two singles and when u get the album, it sucks ass. You only think what u hear on the radio or see on t.v. is hip-hop and accept it and when you hear someone say that artist sucks, u get all defensive and u know nothing. Hip-Hops factors have all become negative. 90% of todays rappers only talk about guns, drugs, sex, and getting money by all means(this refers to all sections of the Rap game, not only the south). Also everybody sayin they want to bring New York back after Jay-Z left the game for a breif time.The beefing has caused a major rift in New Yorks rap status.New York needs to stick together. Hip-Hop has also descended to a point where any regular person can just one day decide to become a rapper. To tell the truth, Jay-Z, The Game, Kanye West and T.I. were the only two albums I bought all last year. That way I only have the best of all worlds.
Bottom Line: If these lil niggas don't change they ways they will be digging a deep hole for hip-hop(referring to jay-z's song dig a hole) Go cop Kingdom Come if you like real hip-hop.

I think that Jeezy is trying to promote his album due to is hasn't been promoted by Def Jam as well as NaS album is, so he is jealous and so he has feelings towards that NaS's album is and I gurantee that "Hip Hop Is Dead" will sell more than "The Inspriration" but back to NaS' comment that Hip Hop Is Dead I disagree I dont think it is dead but it is dying slowly and Only true Mc's such as The Game, T.I, Jay-Z, NaS,Kanye West aong a handful of others can truly save hip hop and it's true existence.

Let me first say that hip-hop is dead. Southern and New York rappers stomped the life out of it. Think of this, in the past we would judge whose skills were the best by their style and lyrics. Now as per Jeezy, it is judge by gunfire and record sales. One of the first to bring Hip Hop down was 50 cent. Using his history of being shot as a backdrop, half dollar half woman sold his soul to the corporate slave masters. He is even hurt that Oprah will not sit down and trade girl stories with him. I am not hating these are the facts.
The south has a great many good underground rappers (New York as well) however only Pimps get play in the new generation of Crap. Come to think of it, what is the history of a Pimp? Answer: A Pimp is a man who would sell his own daughter, sister or mother to make a dime. If times got hard, a Pimp would sell his own backside to get a buck. Pimps are what killed Hip-Hop and it started with a punk who sold his soul for 50 cent.
If Tupac was alive and a new rapper, he would never get any airplay. I am confident that Tupac would be coming at these sellouts harder then Nas. It is a sad day when a so-called thug / Pimp rapper would be emotionally taken apart by a female rapper, so bad that he would storm out of the radio station (like a girl). I guess the Pimps cannot deal with smart female. Run Jeezy and let the man take care of Hip Hop.

I think that alot of up north rappers are hating the south right now. Fuck what yah heard,but the south don't really fuck with the north anyway. Anybody who has traveled down south from up north knows that. NY rappers spend most of their time beefing with each other,worried about who is king of NY. First off, let me get this off my chest.

HipHop is dead, get over it. We're not talking about the grafitti on the wall or some DJ scratching on turntables. We're talking about the music genre as a whole. Look back at all the artists that had an influence on HipHop and skip forward to what we have now. People rapping about girls, cars and money -- half of which they rent. It has become more about presentation then actual skill to the point where any kid can decide he wants to be a rapper, drape a gold chain around his neck and make a label. The sad part is that the community endorses it to the point where stupid comments like the one Jeezy makes spills out.

HipHop isn't about guns, chains, grills, girls or anything of the sort. It's a culture, a process. Degrading it with all this materialism is the reason WHY people are so quick to jump on HipHop and blame it for the problems of today's youth. So, backing up comments like Jeezy's? That just proves HipHop is dead.

Hip-Hop is dead! Look at Jay-Z' latest, 75% of the sales came (no homo) in the first week. Soundscan numbers don't lie, even Jim Jones' P.O.M.E. hasn't broke the 250K barrier. If you want to go by CD sales, this genre of music is headed for a downturn. I don;t think it is because of online leaking wither, because even Jin's song, 'I Download' explains, if 'it's' worth buying, I'll 'support it' with dollar$.

As for certain artists, I fgeel that hip-hop or rap as a genre fell off-course many years ago. We could applaud people like Master P, who sold many-million's of records, mad millions of dollars, but can you name one song that would be considered a rap classic? Rappers in different areas of the States and world for that matter, rap in different ways and about different things.

With regard to Moni Love, I think she is stating her opinion that listening to rappers talk about guns, violence, degrading women, and selling drugs ... is just getting ''old.'' And as a fan of rap music, I must admit, I feel the same way ... the most recent album I bought and enjoyed was Kids In The Hall 'School Was My Hustle' ... this was a referal from a friend. Last commercial album I liked, from start to finish ... I'd have to get back to you on that; maybe the new The Game album.

Face it, hip-hop music has become a gimmick ... it's been on a path right where the 'boy-bands' go ... have fun with Vanilla Ice!

He is from the largest housing projects in the world litterally, Queens Bridge. So maybe he didnt bust guns or was a drug king been. But he is without a doubt from that enviorment and he speaks about it from an observant point of view. Does he have homies in the pen?? Ofcourse (lake, cormega, his brother jungle bust guns). Ain't none of them actually listening to each other! Hip-Hop is not dead, it's alive and well. However, once NY sold and marketed Hip-Hop to the American music industry (which is not necessarily a bad thing) it became susceptible to corporate interests and influences withing the music business. Some stuff on the radio/TV is so-called "Real Hip-Hop" and some of it is just songs. It's not that complicated. Let's be smart about this one. That's like saying basketball is dead because the NBA doesn't like hoopers to talk trash and wear chains and tattoos. People outside of the business/industry set the trend for the corporate entities to feed off of, and until WE realize we ultimately control the ebb and flow, we will continue to fall into the same "divide and conquer traps". C'mon yall, let's get smart.

I think everybody is entitled to their own opinion, however Young Jeexy did nothing but prove Nas point. Nas made a statement about hip-hop being dead and jeezy goes off and starts talking about guns and jail and the feds. Where did that come from?. WOW this amazes me to think that you have someone when they came into the business they were enjoying the friuts of thier labor, now that you become a older person in the game, you want to down another person. The south has always stood by and gave props to everyone in the industry, when Boogie down, Eric B & Rakim, Biggie, Buster, Jay-Z, and even you we supported, when the west coast had their turn Death Row, Aftermath, Too-Short, Dogg Pound we showed love, but when the south speaks on what goes on here some people get intimidated. Enough is enough, majority of the southern stuff is original not sampled. if you want to bring up HIP-HOP it was formed because of originality not the same ol shi$. If the game has not changed for a lot of poeple in New York then why do you have so many bass drum tracks on their albums now? Originality, unique, streets, life, love, and political is what HIP HOP is.

First of all, Nas is a legend in the game, and has been since he dropped illmatic back in 1994. If anyone's opinion should be heard is Nasir Jones'. What nas means about hip hop is dead is quite clear to me and should be to anyone with a fucking brain. The hip hop that nas transcended from was a simple thing. it wasn't even rap, it was a form of poetry, a simple art that has been infected with mainstream hip hop, Radio Stations, and Dj's playing god with the artist's music. There are rappers out there that maybe nicer than Jay-z and Nicer than Nas and Nicer than anyone who ever touched the mic. But That person is'nt able to get his or her voice heard because the music and poetry that that mc isnt popular right now. So now that artist is spending countless of dollars trying to re invent himself just to get recognized by the Audience. I am sorry, i am not putting down any south rapper down, but I for one can not and will not listen to Laffy Taffy everyday and evry single time that i put on the Radio. I would rather listen to Rock!! Hip hop is dead because of the ignorant ass holes that play god on the turn tables as well as the labels that are giving these no talent ass rappers a shot.It doesnt matter where the artist is from. Alot of southern rappers feel it is a personal insult because "other rappers" in the game feel as though southern rap is "FUN CRUNK MUSIC" compared to rap in the north. Let's recognize that everyone has there fun music example: chicken noodle soup and laffy taffy could be in the same category. Rappers in the south just have another way of expressing themselves. Let's be for real if all rap genres were the same, wouldn't it be boring. Jeezy and other southern rappers have a right to take offense. Like Fat Joe, "Why is everyone hatining on the south?" everyone had their time to shine. Obviously, this statement suggests that there is problem in the Hip Hop community with southern rap.

When people say hip hop is dead, they're usually talking about it's original 4 elements: dj, rapper, bboy, graffitti as a culture. That was the original hip hop scene. Since then hip hop has evolved into all kinds of sub-genres. We're just under the illusion that hip hop is dead because limited playlists are ran over and over by megastations owned by Clear Channel Radio. Hip hop is alive and well, just not on your corporate owned "local" radio stations.

I think that a COMMERICAL RAPPER like Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne or who ever needs to respect the veterans in this HIP- HOP game, its like a grandparent and grandchild.... sometimes your grandma may say something that you dont agree on or u think is crazy but that because in all honesty they could be right u just dont have the knowledge and wisdom like that the elderly ( or seasoned hip hop artist as in this case) to make those RECKLESS and OUT of LINE statements. Hip Hop is dead, hip hop is living. Or could it just be in a comatose stage? We all are the endorsers of this culture. So we all have the right for an opinion.
Nasir is a 10 year plus veteran of hip hop and has seen the legends do their thing. Hell, you might as well say "Nas is a legend".
Jeezy has two-to-three years under his belt, which to some, if not many, doesn't really show his impact to hip hop as a whole.
If we look at hip hop's current era, with the snapping of the fingers and with all the pussyfied beef-on-wax records, we can say that is has changed from the furry kangols and when beefs were handled with a break dance battle or a roller-skatin showdown. I guess it's safe to say it has changed dramatically.
Back on topic, Monie Luv says she has "36 years" of hip hop exposure compared to, once again, the fairly tender Young Jeezy. Jeezy's view of the argument is based on RAP, not hip hop. He stated that HIP HOP is a way of life, then claims that you must "bust yo gunz" or "have street cred" to reputable. Not true...in my opinion. Hip Hop was founded on having a good time and being one with our brothers and sisters, and expressing yourself (word to NWA). Havin' homies in the "Feds" has nothing to do with it.
Jeezy is furious because he feels Nas is sayin hip hop dead because the South is on top or changing the rap scene. Not true. Hip hop's been dying for a while now. We as American's have free speech, but hip hip thrives on integrity. With murders AND unsolved murders of rappers, booty videos (in general), beefs (in general), the battles for royalty, BET, and 50 Cent, hip hop has been taking some serious hits to the dome.
Newer events have surfaced that have nothing to do with the South, and are hurtin hip hop, such as R. Kelly's sex tape deal, over-use of sampled oldies, over-sized rims, pink (worn by a male), Akon, and Nick Cannon rapping.
What we need to do is keep doing what we've been doing by reviving the sound and tryin new stuff. Hip hop AND rap are based off of expression and being yourself. So hell, if i want to show I'm paid, let me rock that fly gold grill. Let me put some 26 inch rims on my Olds cutlass. Its about being Black (or Brown) and proud. Its about gettin paid, laid, living the American dream...with integrity.
