Young Jeezy - Who Is Nas to Say Hip Hop is Dead?

Earlier this week Young Jeezy recently let slip some challenging words to Nas on Monie Love's radio show in Philadelphia.

powered by ODEO

After defending Jay-Z against greasy remarks from Lil Wayne in the current issue of Complex Magazine, and declaring it a generational rift between old and new cats, Jeezy and Monie tumbled into their own veteran vs novice debate centered around Nas' claim that hip hop is dead.

Jeezy took personal offense to Nas declaring hip hop is dead, and made it clear exactly what he thinks:

“You got Nas coming back saying hip hop is dead. Who is he to say hip hop is dead?

Jeezy went on, question Nas' hood status: "Nas ain’t no street nigga. He ain’t been in no street. So Nas ain’t did nothing he talk about… Nas bust his guns? Nas been on the block? Do Nas have street credibility? Is any of Nas’ homies in the Feds? "

And before Jeezy left the show he issued this challenge: "If Nas say hip-hop is dead then I say it’s alive. Tell him to get at me.”

vernon mcclain says:

i think most people on here got the wrong idea of what the homie nas was sayin. when he said hip hop was dead he mean as far as these new rappers. a lot of new rappers don't pay homage and respect to the legends of the game. like nas said on hip hop is dead. ok let's see who the baddest, who can quote a daddy kane line the fastest. on the song "where are they now" he sayin that a lot of young and new age rappers don't know the culture of hip hop. that's not to say that these young up and coming rappers aren't talented but that don't not all but most don't pay tribute to those who made hip hop what it is. believe me the south has talent. eg: Lil Wayne, T.I., B.G., Luda, Juvie, ect. the south have some heavy hitters believe me. but look into what some of yall sayin. get ya info. straight. he wasn't disrespecting anyones ability.

RAINMAN says:

NAS SUCKS.....JIMMIE KIMMEL SHOW WHAT GARBAGE.........WHO IS STUPID ENOUGH TO BUY THAT SHIT MUSIC...TIME TO HANG IT UP PLEASE!

6.

leak says:

First off,

To the guy who said pac would rip nas... HAHA.. anyways.

Jeezy = Coke Dealer, saved his funds, made a label. Now all the wanna-be dope dealers in the south listen to him and dream of big rims and chevys. No where else does his music apply. There is no knowledge in Jeezy's music. I sell dope. that doesnt mean im going to start making albums about it and calling myself a great hip hop artist.

Nas = amazing. Simply amazing. The first time I head Illmatic in the 90s i couldnt put it down. As a matter of fact, it STILL ranks as my TOP album. I don't think I've listened to nas for quite some time but ask me what the greatest album Lyrically is EVER and youll get the same answer : Illmatic. The greatest Beef album ever : Stillmatic.

said and done nas is a mother f*cking poet of the game. Even today I subconciously use Nas' lyrics in every day life, because they STICK WITH YOU. Those are the greatest artists. The ones who drop a rhyme that you'll NEVER forget.

as a matter of fact, my myspace name is "half man, half amazin' "...

7.

eric says:

who the fuck is jeezy?what the hell does he know about feds?where was he when nas made illmatic, stillmatic,it was written, god son, lost tapes, streat dreams amongst others???was he getting crunk?nas knows what he says.....jeezy just wanna make fame by tackling nas.but i aint gonna use ma money to buy his fucked up album.

10.

hovadoes says:

I don't really think hip-hop is dead. But it is slowly dying. It's just that you young punks only accept what's on the radio. Somebody like Lloyd Banks or Jim Jones might come out with a good one or two singles and when u get the album, it sucks ass. You only think what u hear on the radio or see on t.v. is hip-hop and accept it and when you hear someone say that artist sucks, u get all defensive and u know nothing. Hip-Hops factors have all become negative. 90% of todays rappers only talk about guns, drugs, sex, and getting money by all means(this refers to all sections of the Rap game, not only the south). Also everybody sayin they want to bring New York back after Jay-Z left the game for a breif time. The beefing has caused a major rift in New Yorks rap status.New York needs to stick together. Hip-Hop has also descended to a point where any regular person can just one day decide to become a rapper. To tell the truth, Jay-Z, The Game, Kanye West and T.I. were the only two albums I bought all last year. That way I only have the best of all worlds.
Bottom Line: If these lil niggas don't change they ways they will be digging a deep hole for hip-hop(referring to jay-z's song dig a hole) Go cop Kingdom Come if you like real hip-hop.

11.

coconut says:

yo i think all yall who sayin jeezy is stupid, you need to quit.

personally i dont kno why everyone beefin ova this n tha bout hip hop is dead, whos better and who aint. i fukn love young jeezy, but i like nas too ya hear me, to me hip hop aint dead cuz i like shit from way back to now and i kno wut i like. hip hop aint dead, if anything its growing yo.. except for some shit out there.

jeezy...sexy? yea, him.

12.

Jay Ni$e says:

I think that Jeezy is trying to promote his album due to is hasn't been promoted by Def Jam as well as NaS album is, so he is jealous and so he has feelings towards that NaS's album is and I gurantee that "Hip Hop Is Dead" will sell more than "The Inspriration" but back to NaS' comment that Hip Hop Is Dead I disagree I dont think it is dead but it is dying slowly and Only true Mc's such as The Game, T.I, Jay-Z, NaS,Kanye West aong a handful of others can truly save hip hop and it's true existence.

13.

ill Kid/The Infamous says:

Bump Young Jeezy! Whack lyrics, whack beats, & more whack lyrics. Nas is my favorite rapper and he feels intimidated by Nas because he know he is one of the reasons Hip-Hop is dead. Lil Wayne is another punk a-- rapper. It almost makes me cry when I hear Chamillionaire then listen to A Tribe Called Quest. Real Hip-Hop listeners know what I'm talking about.

14.

Jaybowalker says:

Let me first say that hip-hop is dead. Southern and New York rappers stomped the life out of it. Think of this, in the past we would judge whose skills were the best by their style and lyrics. Now as per Jeezy, it is judge by gunfire and record sales. One of the first to bring Hip Hop down was 50 cent. Using his history of being shot as a backdrop, half dollar half woman sold his soul to the corporate slave masters. He is even hurt that Oprah will not sit down and trade girl stories with him. I am not hating these are the facts.
The south has a great many good underground rappers (New York as well) however only Pimps get play in the new generation of Crap. Come to think of it, what is the history of a Pimp? Answer: A Pimp is a man who would sell his own daughter, sister or mother to make a dime. If times got hard, a Pimp would sell his own backside to get a buck. Pimps are what killed Hip-Hop and it started with a punk who sold his soul for 50 cent.
If Tupac was alive and a new rapper, he would never get any airplay. I am confident that Tupac would be coming at these sellouts harder then Nas. It is a sad day when a so-called thug / Pimp rapper would be emotionally taken apart by a female rapper, so bad that he would storm out of the radio station (like a girl). I guess the Pimps cannot deal with smart female. Run Jeezy and let the man take care of Hip Hop.

15.

thesouthwinsthiswar says:

I think that alot of up north rappers are hating the south right now. Fuck what yah heard, but the south don't really fuck with the north anyway. Anybody who has traveled down south from up north knows that. NY rappers spend most of their time beefing with each other, worried about who is king of NY. Meanwhile, the south is getting rich and taking over the airwaves. The north lost its creativity. Yeh, the south may put out some fun music along with the real, but we get it there. Fuck what you say about Jeezy, look at the sound scans, Jeezy is gonna rip Naz apart in sales. Yall niggahz from up north need to support your artist and stop being so bootleg and burning shit.

16.

Me says:

I'm so tired of yall sayin the south is killin hip hop. hip hop died when pac did. pac woulda ripped nas, jay- whos the "best rapper alive," which is highly up to who you're talkin to-wayne, tip, luda...anybody yall can think up in ya big airhead. done deal. hip hop needed a revival. the south did that. they just brought somethin new to the table and it just so happened to work. hence them doin it for so long now. all of a sudden, its a problem? what happened to everybody sayin we need to be happy for otha dudes thats doin it? hip hop in general shouldnt be separated by regions, anyway. if everybody got togetha and meant what they said about their "love" for hip hop, blacks could take ova the entire music industry. you already know it aint cool til black people say it is, so why cant yall get togetha and sing that damn barney song? stop hatin so much. hatin is what started this conversation. open ya mind

17.

me says:

honestly what does hip hop have to do with busting guns....and if it is about busting guns then your dumbass boy jeezy is wrong. if hip hop is about busting guns then hip hop is dead. jeezy is a talentless punk who can only rap about the time he spent in juvy or watever. "im a t.r.a.p.s.t.a.r." hip hop must be dead if dats sounds like good music to anyone.....jeezy, lil wayne, t.i, 50cent, lloyd banks, mike jones, ludacris, thay all live off lies and incouragin violence....most importantly, lyrically they are talentless. they should be forced into retirement or lynched

18.

jSWIZ says:

i gotta say it jeezy, t.i., all these fucking kids don't hold a candle to Nas and what he's accomplished and what his career has been through. Real hip hop is dead....now its POP HOP

19.

Ohio says:

Nas comes from queens bridge morons. Its a ghetto, best friend Ill Will got shot. Young Jeezy was a cokee dealer that made it cuz he can say chyaaa. Jeezy is garbage and if anyone even comes close to think that jeezy is better than nas or will be. Illmatic as of now is the best rap album of all time and jeezy will never touch it. " My first album had no famous guest appearances
the outcome, I'm was crowned the best lyricist" ya'll garbage along with jeezy

20.

sexypassion2002 says:

I think yall need to get off Jeezy. Because all them up north rappers talk all that shit that down south rappers aint real hip hop.So if i was a rapper in the south I would take that comment to heart too. I say he need to keep doing what he do and reppin the south. I know New York rappers aint talking. That Chicken Noodle Bullshit with a soda on the side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ticket says:

First off, let me get this off my chest.

HipHop is dead, get over it. We're not talking about the grafitti on the wall or some DJ scratching on turntables. We're talking about the music genre as a whole. Look back at all the artists that had an influence on HipHop and skip forward to what we have now. People rapping about girls, cars and money -- half of which they rent. It has become more about presentation then actual skill to the point where any kid can decide he wants to be a rapper, drape a gold chain around his neck and make a label. The sad part is that the community endorses it to the point where stupid comments like the one Jeezy makes spills out.

HipHop isn't about guns, chains, grills, girls or anything of the sort. It's a culture, a process. Degrading it with all this materialism is the reason WHY people are so quick to jump on HipHop and blame it for the problems of today's youth. So, backing up comments like Jeezy's? That just proves HipHop is dead.

22.

Brezze(M.O.B) says:

I dont agree with Nas for the simple fact that his comment was said wrong what he shouldve said was New York rap is dead.Them niggas aint shit no more but dont get me wrong its still niggas that beats mode on traks(Fabolous,Jadakiss,Jay Z, and a couple more niggas but Nas is dead.He aint on shit no more. That new song he got is weak as fuck he need to retire. He dont understand that it aint about who can rap the best its about who the realist cause anybody can make up some shit that they never did and rhyme perfectly But its about being real, tellin the truth and Jeezy the realist nigga in da game straight up M.O.B

23.

TheIcon says:

Hip-Hop is dead! Look at Jay-Z' latest, 75% of the sales came (no homo) in the first week. Soundscan numbers don't lie, even Jim Jones' P.O.M.E. hasn't broke the 250K barrier. If you want to go by CD sales, this genre of music is headed for a downturn. I don;t think it is because of online leaking wither, because even Jin's song, 'I Download' explains, if 'it's' worth buying, I'll 'support it' with dollar$.

As for certain artists, I fgeel that hip-hop or rap as a genre fell off-course many years ago. We could applaud people like Master P, who sold many-million's of records, mad millions of dollars, but can you name one song that would be considered a rap classic? Rappers in different areas of the States and world for that matter, rap in different ways and about different things.

With regard to Moni Love, I think she is stating her opinion that listening to rappers talk about guns, violence, degrading women, and selling drugs ... is just getting ''old.'' And as a fan of rap music, I must admit, I feel the same way ... the most recent album I bought and enjoyed was Kids In The Hall 'School Was My Hustle' ... this was a referal from a friend. Last commercial album I liked, from start to finish ... I'd have to get back to you on that; maybe the new The Game album.

Face it, hip-hop music has become a gimmick ... it's been on a path right where the 'boy-bands' go ... have fun with Vanilla Ice!

Hip-Hop Is Dead ... d. September 13, 2005

Moe says:

One hip-hop should not revolve entirely around guns and flippin coke. To say Nas has never been in the streets is silly. He is from the largest housing projects in the world litterally, Queens Bridge. So maybe he didnt bust guns or was a drug king been. But he is without a doubt from that enviorment and he speaks about it from an observant point of view. Does he have homies in the pen?? Ofcourse (lake, cormega, his brother jungle bust guns). But so what he rose up above that.

Jaye says:

I personally feel rap is alive and the culture of hiphop is slowly dying. Hear me out. I feel alotofcats from down south athat have been and continue to hold it down. This includes, scarface, t.i. lil flip, slim thug, outkast, goodie mob, master p, lil wayne and the cash$ cats, tela, soulja slim, 8ball and mjg, ugk. Now here is the difference between who I just named and most of the niggas out right now is YES they can and have made club songs. Nuttin wrong wit that. I love gettin crunk gettin right, I can't front. But yall ready for this. That is not just all they rap about. Even pac made some of the best club songs, biggie too. But they also made some of the best songs reflecting life. Real talk. Nigga I am talkin bout what's good after the fuckin club. I got bills, seeds, hard times, what else ya got !!! I don't feel it's hating at all. 90 percent of these rappers suck. Fuck a street cred. And even if thatis an issue. Okay so this nigga got more, cool. In a lyrical battle cause we are talkin bout hiphop these ca ts wouldn't be shit. I believe the people I named could hold they own in a battle. What tha fuck could the yin yang twins do in a battle besides dance. Get tha fuck outta here wit that shit. I love tha south in fact I luv yin yang too cause them niggaz don't try to go out they relm. They know they are what they are and stick wit that. These other cats got it fucked up. If you got street cred give us something bout that make a nigga cry or feel ya pain. Pac did. Yall talk all this pac but rap bullshit. Pac didn't pun didn't, big didn't proof didn't yall get tha pic. And it ain't nuttin to do with the south cause alotof NY is trash, yeah I said it. So I just see the truth, these niggaz trash, alot of them ain't got no street cred, they got egos, and they talk about one or 3 subjects. And don't even go into detail. Pac told us how he killed or would dmx also. These niggaz just shoot story over ?!?! Paint a fuckin picture, you dumb thug fuck. I luv lil jhon but in a battle he might come out wit one of 3 lines. I ain't hating. I just appriciate good music. And most they clubs songs are not good either. Just make good music, stop tryin to sound like him or her. If street cred is important than be creative wit it, stop wit the egos, know your role, stop cryin like a bunch of bitches, grab ya balls, bring back the culture not just rap. And lets stop promotin the fake thug black paris hiltons that one day wake up and think their bitch pussy asses can rap, while they rap to the feds. This game is about culture and takes years, be it street or rap or hiphop, keep it thorough and yall sheep wake tha fuck up andstop dick ridin wack niggaz, yall know whats good. the problemis white people and wack niggaz running these companies tellin us what street and rap is when we are it and then we support their bullshit image knowing it don't get down like that foreal. Then when someone says something real panties get in a knot and bitches start takin offense and defense, when the guilty take both. Lets take it back past egos. Lets keep it gutter and have a goodtime in the club and streets and lets stop being bitches !!! this is to anyone in NY SOUTH WEST NW MW AFRICA ASIA I really don't give a fuck, say something 100-

Tha resurrection - Music is more than you see, street is more than you and me. anyone that disagrees is pussy and a wack ass rapper bitch too that is why yall faggot niggaz pussies all hurt. Defend these!

28.

E-Dilla says:

Ain't none of them actually listening to each other! Hip-Hop is not dead, it's alive and well. However, once NY sold and marketed Hip-Hop to the American music industry (which is not necessarily a bad thing) it became susceptible to corporate interests and influences withing the music business. Some stuff on the radio/TV is so-called "Real Hip-Hop" and some of it is just songs. It's not that complicated. Let's be smart about this one. That's like saying basketball is dead because the NBA doesn't like hoopers to talk trash and wear chains and tattoos. People outside of the business/industry set the trend for the corporate entities to feed off of, and until WE realize we ultimately control the ebb and flow, we will continue to fall into the same "divide and conquer traps". C'mon yall, let's get smart.

30.

Dre Brown says:

HA HA, who we talking bout again? As blacks we need to take Hip Hop out of the fast money section and back to the creative side.. HA HA what is that, sounds like the dark side to me!

31.

Conscious says:

Monie sounded rather ignorant and ridiculous. Further more anyone at this point that is a lover of Hiphop and says that it in fact dead really needs their head examined. step back really think about it and realize that this whole Hiphop is Dead siuation is yet another diversive tactic created by media. 'Hype' similar to the created East and West coast beef. When will people realize the power that the music and the culture actually has and see that's the reason why they continually fond was to divide and conquer.

Wake up and stop having foolish arguments. Stop being bitter and upset and affect change thru progrssive movements not attacking one another on radio. Youu have a platform to affect change yet you be have like friggin Star.

32.

will says:

What is a Jeezy? Sounds like a butt pimple. Young Jeezy trying to get where NAS is at, Yo that n*%%A is tryin to obtain MASS APPEAL, like NAS has already established. Hip Hop is not the same! Not from the daze of DMC, KRS, NWA, those days are confused with these young rappers talkn bout money, women, sex, and drugs. What happened to making the community aware of what's going on in Congress, in one of those Third World Countries. Who wants to hear about you on a street corner flip'n birds, or some broad you had suck'n on somethin. To me DMC wanted to see who was the hottest MC in the world, talkin bout shows they did overseas, or Slick Rick talkn bout how he was on the 736 on his way to the Bronx or something. TODAYS RAPPERS SUCK BAD. They have no direction and no meaning. That's why I listen to the OLD SCHOOL OF RAP AND R&B. Not this New Garbage called R A P. We need someone to reclaim the meaning of RAP, cause today's RAP is TITTY!

33.

shasta says:

Jeezy is a loser. He always talking that street crap. Talking about he ain't no rapper...then what are you? You ain't behind a podium giving speeches...you made it out the hood...be proud of that. But instead he's too ignorant to see that and wants to keep holding on. Like some of you said, hip hop ain't about bustin' guns and having friends in the Feds...that's pure ignorance. Hip hop is music in case he didn't know that. And all that snap your fingers stuff is played...Nas wasn't lying...talking about noodles and soda pop and all that is whack...there was a time where mess like that wouldn't even get played. Now everybody gotta have their own dance too...CORNY...i can't speak for Nas really living the life he speaks about in his rhymes...but as far as I can recall...Nas would never O.D in his lyrics about street life...that's ALL Jeezy talks about. He needs to grow up and be happy he made it somewhere...foreal.

34.

hello says:

Hello People nas was sayin hip hop is dead. He wasnt sayin that the south made it died thats jus real dumb of nebody to think that. Hiphop doesnt live ne where its worldwide. So really who r u to think he was talkin bout the south? Like monie luv was sayin hip hop is different genres and rite now the music thats out is focusin on bein a dope boy, bein in the trap, and shakin ur money maker. Theres no variety ne more and thats why its dead. Jeezy talkin bout this is the new hiphop era well if it is thats sad cuz it sucks. Jeezy jus suck cuz at the hiphop awards his stage show was a bunch of strippers on a pole (thats real innovative) now thats sad but hey its the new era of hiphop rite!

35.

Daphine Walkins says:

I think everybody is entitled to their own opinion, however Young Jeexy did nothing but prove Nas point. Nas made a statement about hip-hop being dead and jeezy goes off and starts talking about guns and jail and the feds. Where did that come from?. That was so left field and had NOTHING to do with hip-hop. Nas statement went completely over Jeezy head wich why kids should stay in school so they can at least acheive a basic understanding. I'm not even a huge Nas fan but I feel him when he says hip hop dead when people start saying stupid stuff like you have to bus guns, and have friends in the feds and thats hip hop and if you don't you anit hip-hop. JAY-Z PLEASE GIVE HIM A HISTORY LESSON QUICK BEFORE HE LOOSE WHATEVER FANS HE HAVE.

36.

foelifeaggin says:

These rappers need to stop all the non sense. Who is Jeezy? Lil Wayne? T.I.? Nas? Jay-Z? Who are these people? I tell you one thing they aren't "Hip Hop". "Everybody know NewYork is where it began,So let the ego-sh*t end.Black radio is being disowned,Not by the other race--but
its own,A lot of bullsh*t records make hits,Because the radio is all about politics" Geto Boys written by Willie D. I don't know why people think the south is just now being put on the map I've been listening to the south Movement of Hip Hop since '89 and they've been doing real hip hop that is true to the region. Geto Boys, Gangsta-Nip, 8ball & MJG, No Limit, Outkast, I can go own about this. But the south isn't something new they've been around and have made big impacts on the music and what the south is putting out now is garbage. No kind of social or political conscious. But back then they had stuff relevant to the area. Go back to the Library and study the south. But if you let corporate America dictate what is popular and keep feeding us what they want us to hear and buy, hip hop will die. Its funny though, But when white people start loving something its wack. LOL. So tell me now that its not a Black thing anymore is Hip Hop wack?

But there are only a few true MC's that can rock a crowd now. The rest are just corney asses.

37.

Jay says:

WOW this amazes me to think that you have someone when they came into the business they were enjoying the friuts of thier labor, now that you become a older person in the game, you want to down another person. The south has always stood by and gave props to everyone in the industry, when Boogie down, Eric B & Rakim, Biggie, Buster, Jay-Z, and even you we supported, when the west coast had their turn Death Row, Aftermath, Too-Short, Dogg Pound we showed love, but when the south speaks on what goes on here some people get intimidated. Enough is enough, majority of the southern stuff is original not sampled. if you want to bring up HIP-HOP it was formed because of originality not the same ol shi$. If the game has not changed for a lot of poeple in New York then why do you have so many bass drum tracks on their albums now? Originality, unique, streets, life, love, and political is what HIP HOP is.

38.

Dantez Ogolaz says:

Young jeezy should not be even think for a moment that he can emulate Nas. Nas is the illest rapper coz his shit is just lyk poetry not the booty shakin, pusssyfied chorus of young jeezy. Advise to young jeezy: BOW DOWN TO NAS.

I think Fat Joe said it best Why is Everybody so mad at the South for? change your style up!!!!!!!

44.

Manny says:

First of all, Nas is a legend in the game, and has been since he dropped illmatic back in 1994. If anyone's opinion should be heard is Nasir Jones'. What nas means about hip hop is dead is quite clear to me and should be to anyone with a fucking brain. The hip hop that nas transcended from was a simple thing. it wasn't even rap, it was a form of poetry, a simple art that has been infected with mainstream hip hop, Radio Stations, and Dj's playing god with the artist's music. There are rappers out there that maybe nicer than Jay-z and Nicer than Nas and Nicer than anyone who ever touched the mic. But That person is'nt able to get his or her voice heard because the music and poetry that that mc isnt popular right now. So now that artist is spending countless of dollars trying to re invent himself just to get recognized by the Audience. I am sorry, i am not putting down any south rapper down, but I for one can not and will not listen to Laffy Taffy everyday and evry single time that i put on the Radio. I would rather listen to Rock!! Hip hop is dead because of the ignorant ass holes that play god on the turn tables as well as the labels that are giving these no talent ass rappers a shot.It doesnt matter where the artist is from. If the nigga is ass, the nigga is ass. I will say it again, I am not putting down the south, I love lil Wayne and T.I. but in a retrospect, there are more ass rappers from the south than the North. There are countless hot mc's in the north as well as wack mc's. Joe Budden, Jadakiss,Talib Kwelli, AZ and Jae Mills are some examples of talented rappers that are getting fucked by the music industry. While wack mc's like Juels santana, Jim Jones, And Camron are prospering of wack music. Nas has the right and the credibility, and lyrical ability to say whatever he has to say about the game. Jeezy is nowhere near nas's lyrical ability. Last time I checked, Nas won the battle with Jay-z. How stupid is Jeezy to call out Nas?? He is set to receive a thrashing!!!

45.

Jc, Florida(bk till i die) says:

Darryl says:

I feel like Hip Hop is still alive it's just being displayed in a different form down south. All the music down south is not about snapping and dancing that's just the mainstream and what's selling. I feel the North and South are dividing themselves and The North arguement is hip hop is over because the South is what happening now. Let the South shine right now everyone deserves there time. It might go back up North.

47.

By way of the South says:

Alot of southern rappers feel it is a personal insult because "other rappers" in the game feel as though southern rap is "FUN CRUNK MUSIC" compared to rap in the north. Let's recognize that everyone has there fun music example: chicken noodle soup and laffy taffy could be in the same category. Rappers in the south just have another way of expressing themselves. Let's be for real if all rap genres were the same, wouldn't it be boring. Jeezy and other southern rappers have a right to take offense. Like Fat Joe, "Why is everyone hatining on the south?" everyone had their time to shine. Obviously, this statement suggests that there is problem in the Hip Hop community with southern rap.

48.

Wanna says:

Jeezy is a fake ass nigga born in Hawkinsville and raised in tha Mac-town (Macon Ga.)but want to be an Atlanta native. He need to sit his SCARY ass down somewhere. How can he try to come at NASIR like that? That shit is so lame because first of all what tha fuck do tha feds and guns have to do with hip-hop?All of that nonsense talk just explains how young and dumb that nigga really is cause he don't want to take on NAS haven't he heard "STILLMATIC"?

49.

Tiara M. says:

Who the hell is Jezzy to say Nas dont have any street cred. Thats what Nas mean when he say hip hop is dead. Hip Hop is not all about street cred. All jezzy rap about is the block, and grindin. Nobody wants to hear that ish all the time. Tell jezzy Tiara from Detroit said step his rap game up and get some new lyrics. He wouldnt be ish without them beats holdin his album together because he wack as hell.

50.

syretta says:

Sometimes I think people listen with their heart instead of their minds and ears, For Jeezy to say he from the street he really sounds emotional right now has he really listen to what Nas has to say about Hip-Hop being dead. I hear alot of Down South rappers commenting on this subject why are they so offended? It sure does make me WONDER

51.

Tamal says:

All nas was saying is that if hip hop was dead then he would have to die with it. He was just creating a story! niggas need to let their minds explore a little! damn!

52.

deegotdamnit says:

i think jeezy wasn't listen to wat the radio dj's had to say. he kept cuttin em off. but nas sayin hip hop is dead is a lil funny. he did not birth it u feel me. but i say the fans decide if hip hop is dead. if they like where it is goin then fuck it. this is hip hop. it started out as "fad" now look what it has progressed into....

keep it one hunned!!!!

53.

DJ TJ says:

When people say hip hop is dead, they're usually talking about it's original 4 elements: dj, rapper, bboy, graffitti as a culture. That was the original hip hop scene. Since then hip hop has evolved into all kinds of sub-genres. We're just under the illusion that hip hop is dead because limited playlists are ran over and over by megastations owned by Clear Channel Radio. Hip hop is alive and well, just not on your corporate owned "local" radio stations.

54.

embrassez moi says:

i think what jeezy was saying is that nas hasn't lived the lifestyle he raps about. nas knows nothing first hand of that lifestyle and has no street credibility. jeezy on the other hand has lived that life and raps about what he's experienced. jeezy took it as a personal insult when nas suggested that rap was dead because jeezy is a new up and coming artist. what nas said was disrespectful basically saying that the art form is dying because there isnt really any talent out there like it was in his day.

55.

Da Brick City Chic says:

Fuck Jeezy!!!! He can't rap 4 shit anywayz. Nas got a point cuz hip hop is dead, to da East coast cuz of dem stupid rappers from da south! All dem rappers 4rom da south is making rap dead with their stupid shit! Da EAST COAST owns rap alongside with da WEST aight. So Jeezy should just shut da fuck up and stop poppin lip cuz Nas got better spit!!!!!!!

56.

Jaysean says:

This is the reason why NAS said "HIP HOP IS DEAD".It was pure ignorance of jeezy to say.what does busting guns or having boys in the feds,Have to do with Hip Hop.that thinking right there is one of the things that killed Hip Hop.

57.

Melkysedeck says:

I think that a COMMERICAL RAPPER like Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne or who ever needs to respect the veterans in this HIP- HOP game, its like a grandparent and grandchild.... sometimes your grandma may say something that you dont agree on or u think is crazy but that because in all honesty they could be right u just dont have the knowledge and wisdom like that the elderly ( or seasoned hip hop artist as in this case) to make those RECKLESS and OUT of LINE statements. Basically would Young Jeezy disrespect his own grandfather. If so then we see the level of respect that he is capable of.
Peace

58.

DeeJay $uess says:

Hip Hop is dead, hip hop is living. Or could it just be in a comatose stage? We all are the endorsers of this culture. So we all have the right for an opinion.
Nasir is a 10 year plus veteran of hip hop and has seen the legends do their thing. Hell, you might as well say "Nas is a legend".
Jeezy has two-to-three years under his belt, which to some, if not many, doesn't really show his impact to hip hop as a whole.
If we look at hip hop's current era, with the snapping of the fingers and with all the pussyfied beef-on-wax records, we can say that is has changed from the furry kangols and when beefs were handled with a break dance battle or a roller-skatin showdown. I guess it's safe to say it has changed dramatically.
Back on topic, Monie Luv says she has "36 years" of hip hop exposure compared to, once again, the fairly tender Young Jeezy. Jeezy's view of the argument is based on RAP, not hip hop. He stated that HIP HOP is a way of life, then claims that you must "bust yo gunz" or "have street cred" to reputable. Not true...in my opinion. Hip Hop was founded on having a good time and being one with our brothers and sisters, and expressing yourself (word to NWA). Havin' homies in the "Feds" has nothing to do with it.
Jeezy is furious because he feels Nas is sayin hip hop dead because the South is on top or changing the rap scene. Not true. Hip hop's been dying for a while now. We as American's have free speech, but hip hip thrives on integrity. With murders AND unsolved murders of rappers, booty videos (in general), beefs (in general), the battles for royalty, BET, and 50 Cent, hip hop has been taking some serious hits to the dome.
Newer events have surfaced that have nothing to do with the South, and are hurtin hip hop, such as R. Kelly's sex tape deal, over-use of sampled oldies, over-sized rims, pink (worn by a male), Akon, and Nick Cannon rapping.
What we need to do is keep doing what we've been doing by reviving the sound and tryin new stuff. Hip hop AND rap are based off of expression and being yourself. So hell, if i want to show I'm paid, let me rock that fly gold grill. Let me put some 26 inch rims on my Olds cutlass. Its about being Black (or Brown) and proud. Its about gettin paid, laid, living the American dream...with integrity.

59.

msphatboootie says:

Jeezy is stupid. What does having homies in the feds have to do with hip hop? you are excited about your friends being arrested? How stupid is that? Jeezy is no where near Nas lyrically they shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. I thought he wasn't a rapper anyway I thought he was a motivational speaker or a trapper? whatever he needs to get out of the studio and back in the trap since it's so important to him and leave rapping to the lyrically inclined rappers

60.

yaana says:

I think what Nas was trying to say is that he is dead, his music is dead.I personally think that is it wasnt for jeezy and t.i. and all the other durty south rappers was not rap'n then yeah it would be dead, give it a rest Nas you aint happen'n no mo.LOL

61.

E-mac Rawlins says:

Jeezy, this must be the most stupid rapper on earth. I mean, what has busting guns got to do with Hip-Hop? Who is he to decide if Hip Hop is dead or alive.
