Jennifer Lopez Suffering From Poor Sales And Direct-To-DVD Curse

¡Ay Dios mio! What is this that we hear about Jennifer Lopez in danger of losing her record deal and her next movie going direct to DVD? Word on the internet streets is that Jenny from the block may be pounding the pavement soon and looking for a new deal. Apparently Epic and parent company Sony are on the verge of kicking her to the curb for poor record sales. On top of not bringing revenue in, J.Lo is costing the label tons of money to maintain with all of her diva debt for hair, makeup, wardrobe and prenatal care.
And if that music news wasn't bad enough, Lopez isn't fairing too well on the movie tip either. According to sources, her next movie, Bordertown, may get a one-way ticket straight-to-DVD. Although the flick stars Martin Sheen and Antonio "Puss In Boots" Banderas, even their star power can't save this clunker.
Poor Jenny. Maybe she'll take some time off to retool her career when she's on maternity leave.

The singer can be found hawking her wares on the website BagsByChilli.com where she sells custom made bags with personal photographs in a variety of shapes and sizes. The custom bags start at $50 and go up to $175. These bags look like the perfect Christmas gifts for the soccer moms in your life.
We can't knock Chilli's hustle, but we just want to know what's up with that album on Akon's Konvict label that she's supposed to be dropping.
Is Idris Elba Black Hollywood's Next Leading Man?

We don't know about anyone else, but we totally heart Idris Elba over here at VC. Ever since his character Stringer Bell got murked on The Wire, Elba's presence has been missed on the small screen. But his departure from TV has been for the greater good, because we now get to see his fineness in all its splendor on the big screen.
We have gotten our fair share of Idris this year in numerous features, and the train rolls on this Friday when American Gangster hits theaters. Then on November 21st he can be seen in the holiday flick, This Christmas. Earlier this year he enjoyed his first leading role opposite Gabrielle Union in Daddy's Little Girls, and now word is that he has snagged another leading role in the upcoming film, The Human Contract.
The flick is currently in development, and it will mark Jada Pinkett Smith's directorial debut. Now that should be interesting. It probably helps that she's sleeping with the producer, Will Smith. But aside from all that, the movie sounds rather intriguing. We're sure that Idris will be giving a top-notch performance, or at least look good while trying. Denzel Washington better watch his back.
Kanye West Plans To Release A Book

When he wasn't busy owning the charts with Graduation and shutting 50 Cent up, Kanye West somehow found the time to write a book. Ye has followed in the footsteps of his mother, Dr. Donda West, who released her book Raising Kanye earlier this year, with some written words of his own.
According to his blog, Thank You And You're Welcome! will feature Kanye delivering his "personal message uncensored, without any five-second delay or media distortion." Knowing Mr. West this book is sure to be a doozy. Lord help us!

Common Gets Cozy With Kerry Washington On MTV

Well, well, well, look who we have here. Your favorite rapper's favorite rapper, Common, appeared on MTV's TRL on Wednesday to premiere his new video for "I Want You" and look who he brought along for the ride. None of than his rumored boo Kerry Washington.
Sure, Kerry is the co-director and plays the psycho love interest in the video, but how many times do you see the director and video vixen appear with the artist on TV? Right. Furthermore, how often do you see folks who aren't together all hugged up like Common and Kerry are in the photo above? Common's hand is way beneath the Friend Zone, and Kerry's face has 'I'm hitting this but I'm trying to conceal my joy" written all over it.
Nice try, kids, but you can't fool VC.
50 Cent Beefing With Lance Bass Over Books

Only 50 Cent would start a literary beef. Well, him and Terry McMillan. But, whereas she may have good cause, Fiddy doesn't have any other reason to bump his gums other than to drum up interest in his latest literary endeavor.
Curtis has turned his sights from his rap beef with Kanye West to a book beef with former N'SYNC member Lance Bass. Both artists' books dropped this week on Tuesday and 50 is out for blood. According to the rapper, "With me, everything's a competition, so I bet you the end of next week, I'll be moving more copies than him." Yawn. We're heard that before now, haven't we?
Bass, whose memoir Out Of Sync details his coming out as a homosexual, was good natured about 50 opening his mouth. Lance was quoted: "50's going down, that's all I have to say." The jokes write themselves, people.
In other 50 Cent news, Ciara is continuing to insist that the pair are just "good friends." Yeah, OK. Just let us know when the sex tape is coming out.
Kelly Rowland Hawking Video Games Now

Mimikins has gone on record to let everyone know that she needs to be married and with husband before she is with child. She appeared on the morning chat fest The View on Tuesday to kick it with Whoppi Goldberg and the ladies and the topic came up during their conversation.
According to Mimi: "If I were to have a child, I would want to be married with a stable family environment. Not to say that that's how everybody has to do it." So in other words, no Halle Berry for Mariah. She's trying to roll like Christina Aguilera.
Now whether Mariah has any candidates for the position of Mr. Carey, remains to be seen. Although with all of the tight dresses and cheesecake that the singer has been serving up we're sure that a lot of fellas would love to play house with her.
Diddy Wants You To Drink Ciroc Vodka Or Die

In his ongoing quest for world domination, Sean "Diddy" Combs is expanding his brand with a new joint venture with Diageo PLC's Ciroc vodka. Diddy locked up a 50/50 profit share agreement with the liquor company in exchange for developing the Ciroc vodka brand. Combs stands to pocket up to $100 million in the deal if all goes as planned and Ciroc blows up.
We're not mad at Diddy's hustle one bit. Hey, this brotha got a gang of mouths to feed! He needs multiple streams of income. We just wonder how long it's gonna take him to incorporate Ciroc into a song or make a YouTube video about it. Take that! Take that!
Damon Dash, Rachel Roy Expecting A Baby

Will Smith Has Another Blockbuster On Deck

His new film, I Am Legend, opens on December 14th and it's a big-budget sci-fi flick where Will stars as the last man in New York City. The full trailer is now online and it has us intrigued to say the least. Whether I Am Legend turns out to be on the level of Independence Day or Wild Wild West remains to be seen but we'll be checking it out. No bootleg.
Shar Jackson Wants To Launch A Rap Career

As much as we want her to go sit down somewhere, Shar Jackson has re-upped on another 15 minutes of fame. After winning MTV's Celebrity Rap Superstar last week, word on the street is that Kevin Federline's O.G. baby mama now wants to become a rapper. Hey, if he can do it she can, too, right? Right.
Shar is allegedly hitting up major labels looking for a deal, and we hear that Atlantic may be close to signing her. But they let Little Brother go, huh? If that aint a crying shame, then we don't know what is.
Check out Shar and her original rap that sealed the deal for her win on Celebrity Rap Superstar. The song is named "Let It Blow," and it was produced by the word irony.
In other, more important news, Little Brother's new CD Get Back hits stores today. Cop that for real hip hop.
Common Gets His Sexy On In New Video

After teasing us last week with a trailer for his new video, Common's "I Want You" finally hit the net today. The trailer was actually the first 40 seconds of the video, so that's nothing new, but the rest of the video was a little surprising. Alicia Keys plays Common's current lady and Kerry Washington plays his old girl who slips her way into his crib during a dinner party with his friends to steal a naughty movie that they made.
This video is interesting to say the least. One website calls it "Smokin' Aces meets Red Shoe Diaries," which made us chuckle. The video is sexy but it could have been a little sexier considering how fly the song is, but we'll take it. Common is looking mighty delish, we know that much.

Jay-Z Schedules Mini American Gangster Tour

The world's busiest retiree, Jay-Z, will be dropping his next album, American Gangster, on November 6th and will also be hitting the road that day on a short concert tour. Much like his Hangar Tour of '06 to promote Kingdom Come, the American Gangster tour will only touch a few cities. But unlike last year's tour, he won't be jetting from one concert to the next over the course of 24 hours. This tour will take Jigga five nights to get through five cities.
Fans will be able to catch Mr. Carter on stage in Los Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia. There's no word yet on how much tickets will be or when they're gonna go on, but we suspect that this tour will be sold out regardless. Hey, if the Spice Girls can sell out in seconds, Jigga should be able to sell out in minutes. Right?

Santa Delivers The Perfect Holiday This December

Everybody is buzzing about the two new Christmas-themed movies with African-American casts coming to the big screen pretty soon. We already gave you a heads up about This Christmas, starring Chris Brown, Idris Elba and Lauren London. The flick will be getting a little competition from The Perfect Holiday, dropping into theaters a few weeks later on December 12.
The Perfect Holiday boasts a star-studded cast including Gabrielle Union, Queen Latifah, Katt Williams, Charlie Murphy, Faizon Love, Terrence Howard and Morris Chestnut. Now that's some serious Black star power.

New Mariah CD Delayed

Mariah Carey joins the growing (overflowing!) list of artists whose albums are getting pushed back. Now instead of being released in December, Mariah's new set is supposed to drop in February 2008. Word is that she may even be going up against Janet Jackson whose new joint is supposed to drop around the same time. We don't know what's up with all these albums getting pushed back, but this is one trend that we can truly do without.
In the meantime, check out Mimi getting her soft core on in the television ad for her new perfume, M by Mariah Carey. She clearly emancipated herself from her clothes.
Fly With Nelly In His New Video

A video for Nelly's single "Wadsyaname" has just hit the net. For the ebonically challenged, "wadsyname" means "what's your name" and when coupled with the word "shawty" it is typically used in situations where a gentleman would like to get a young lady's attention AKA holla at a bird.
The clip has an aeronautical theme and features Nelly and his boys racing to catch a flight only to wait in the airport (did the director not notice this error?) and the requisite half-dressed dancers dressed as Air Nelly flight attendants. Did Ashanti approve this?
Common Releases Trailer For "I Want You" Video

Common has released a trailer for his upcoming music video for the song "I Want You." The clip features Alicia Keys as his love interest and has cameos by Serena Williams, Kanye West, Derek Luke and his wife Sophia, Will.I.Am and Kerry Washington, who also did double duty as co-director.
And rumor has it that Kerry and Common have been getting cozy with each other on the low. If that's the case, we wonder how she felt about Alicia being all up on her man in the video. That alone should make for an interesting clip to say the least. The full video premieres on 106th & Park and AOL Music on October 23rd.

What is this we hear about Cheri Dennis finally getting a release date? Just as we were about to pop the cap on a 40 and pour some liquor out for Cheri's dead career, we get this incredible news.
We thought that Amerie and Mya had it bad where release dates are concerned, but at least they have some albums to their credit to fall back on. Cheri can't even get her debut CD to drop. But allegedly that will all be changing on February 26, 2008.
According to Cheri's MySpace blog, a video is also in the works for the track "Portrait Of Love." Bad Boy artists who've actually had their projects released by the label will be in the clip including Yung Joc, Gorilla Zoe and the attention whore that is Diddy.
Beyoncé Unveils The B-Phone By Samsung

Just when you thought that Beyoncé might be taking a break and basking in her success, she ups and gets yet another endorsement deal. This time the hottest chick in the game has lent her name to Samsung and together they've created the "B-Phone."
The phone was unveiled today at the Samsung megastore in NYC during a press conference. The B-Phone is a burgundy remix of the Samsung UpStage, a double-sided cell phone with calling features on one face and a video and music player on the other. The new celly will be available exclusively at that classy retailer Wal-Mart.
Bobby Brown Suffers Heart Attack...Or Did He?

The internet was goin' nuts yesterday with news that the King of R&B, Bobby Brown, suffered a heart attack. TMZ.com reported that Brown was rushed to the hospital by his girlfriend/manager Alicia Etheridge Tuesday night after experiencing chest pain. At first it was thought that B. Brown only had a "heart attack scare" but then his lawyer, Phaedra Parks, confirmed that her client did indeed suffer a mild heart attack brought on my stress and a poor diet.
But now Bobby Brown has spoken up on his hospitalization to say that he didn't have a heart attack at all. The King of Rusty Bedpans talked to Lee Bailey of EURWEB and set the record straight. According to Bobby, he went in for a simple checkup and the next thing he knew it was being reported that he had a heart attack when he didn't.
Oh well, no heart attack for Bobby today. There's nothing to see here, folks.

Diddy Slapped With Lawsuit For Bodyguard Beatdown

Diddy can't seem to stay out of the news lately. After being slapped with a $19 million dollar lawsuit by a former Bad Boy associate and finally acknowledging his part in the creation of a bouncing baby girl with a former lover, now Diddy has been slapped with another lawsuit. And this time the hip-hop mogul is being sued because of the overzealous actions of his bodyguards. Ain't that a beyotch?
Up-and-coming hip hop promoter, James Waldon, alleges that Diddy's bodyguards opened up a can of whoop ass on him back in June when he approached him at the NYC nightspot, The Box. Waldon says that after he and Diddy dapped each other up and "briefly exchanged social pleasantries," one of the bodyguards punched him in his grill for no reason. After that sucker punch, two other bodyguards joined in and proceeded to stomp a Mississippi mudhole into his behind, leaving Waldon bruised and bloodied.
Waldon is seeking five million dollars in the lawsuit against Diddy. Sound to us like someone needs to sell a whole lot of Unforgivable Woman this Christmas.
New Usher CD Delayed Because Of Growing Family

As if Usher's remaining fans needed anymore reason to despise Tameka Foster, now word comes that his upcoming CD is going to be delayed because of her. Mrs. Raymond will be giving birth in the next few months and Usher is currently focusing on that and not on his album, according to sources.
This is so not a good look for Ursh. The last thing that he needs to do is keep folks waiting for new music any longer. He seriously needs something to take people's minds of off the trainwreck that is his marriage. Goodness knows his funky fragrance line didn't do the trick.
Diddy Owns Up To Love Child

Wow, it only took Diddy a year and a half to own up to what we knew back last year. The unprotected sex machine that is Sean Combs has finally admitted paternity to a child that he fathered with long-time side piece Sarah Chapman.
Diddy's 15-month-old firstborn daughter, Chance Combs, will now be set for good, as Combs has vowed to take care of her for the rest of her life. According to Diddy, he wasn't sure if he was the daddy but DNA tests cleared all that up and confirmed her as his seed.
If you're keeping track, this makes five children that Diddy has fathered--Justin, Christian, Chance, Jessie James and D'Lila Star--and a total of six that he claims as his (Diddy takes care of Kim Porter's son Quincy by Al B. Sure as well). At this point, we'd just like to suggest a vasectomy to Diddy since condoms or any other birth control don't seem to be an option.

Anyone who watched last night's VH1 Hip Hop Honors special may have noticed Tweet looking mighty different during the Missy Elliott tribute. Her long, straight weave has gone the way of the dinosaur and been replaced by a shaggy 80's inspired wig. We totally heart Tweet here at VC, but this isn't exactly a good look.
Although she looked interesting on the Hip Hop Honors telecast she did at least sound good. The same can't exactly be said for her first single from her upcoming album, Love, Tweet. The track entitled "My Dear" features T.I. (what, was Lil Wayne unavailable?) and it's kinda lackluster given her track record for bangers.

Janet has decided that it is a fine time for her to release a book detailing her lifelong weight struggles. Ever the yo-yo dieter, Miss Jackson If You Have Snack Cakes will chronicle how she has lost and gained weight over the years and even give some nutrition advice.
That's all fine and dandy but we just wonder if she'll finally dead that urban legend that she had a rib removed, though?
We're sure that her future ex-husband Jermaine Dupri doesn't mind any extra baggage Miss Jackson ever carries. That's just more cushion for the pushin'.
Lupe Fiasco Loses Cool Points With "Fiascogate"

Lupe Fiasco's name is on every hip-hop heads tongue right now but for the wrong reasons. Heads are up in arms that Mr. Fiasco forgot (or quite possibly didn't know in the first place) the lyrics to A Tribe Called Quest's classic jam "Electric Relaxation" during a performance on the VH1 Hip Hop Honors, which airs tonight at 10 PM EST.
Lupe had previously gone on record to say that he was not a Tribe fan growing up and had never even heard Midnight Marauders. However, despite his not being familiar with ATCQ's music he did the VH1 HHH tribute because Q-Tip asked him to.
Message boards and comment sections across the net are on fire with people giving their two cents about the situation that many are calling Fiascogate. Lupe initially responded to critics with a cool head but he got buck wild on the Okayplayer message boards in his own defense.
It'll be interesting to see if there is any fallout from this incident with Lupe's new CD The Cool on the horizon considering how he lost his.

In what should really come as a surprise to no one, Nick Cannon and his fiancee Selita Ebanks have called off their engagement and broken up. Stevie Wonder could have seen that one coming.
After a five-month engagement the couple has decided to take a break and focus on their careers, which is Hollyweird's nice way of saying they are over and done with. There's no word on who kicked who to the curb or if it was a mutual decision, but we were giving these two the side eye all along.
Good old Nick didn't let the break up break his stride, though. He was spotted at last night's VH1 Hip Hop Honors taping in NYC decked out in b-boy gear and performing during the Whodini tribute. Oh well, at least he still has his phat dookie rope to keep him warm at night.
Ray J Is Not A Sex Machine

Despite a flurry of stories earlier this week that Ray J had a tell-all memoir detailing his sexcapades in the works, the rumor has turned out to be false.
Thankfully, Ray J will not be getting his Superhead on and putting his sex game in the street in a book that was reportedly going to be titled Sex Machine. Word was that little Willie Norwood, Jr. was going to put all the celebrities he's smashed, including Kim Kardashian, Lil' Kim and even Whitney Houston, on blast in addition to over 1,100 women.
Ray called into the Kay Slay radio show to set the record straight. He confirmed that he writing a book but put the kibbosh on the rumor about this Sex Machine madness. He also took some time to push his new mixtape with Kay Slay that's coming out around the holidays. Oh, that's right we keep forgetting that Ray J is a singer, or something of that nature.

Mess of the moment Britney Spears has finally released a video for her new single "Gimme More" and it damn near put us to sleep. Although it's not a wack as her MTV VMA performance, she is far from being in top form. The clip is filled with camera tricks and quick cuts in an attempt to take your mind off of the train wreck that you're witnessing.
There used to be a time when Britney in some booty shorts and fishnets would be the move, but it is so not a good look nowadays. Ms. Spears has definitely lost her swagger.

Destiny's stepchild Kelly Rowland will be hitting the road this fall on a concert tour to promote Ms. Kelly. Sounds like this tour is going to coincide with the re-release of the CD.
Joining K.Ro on the road will be singer Mario, whose new CD Go is allegedly finally going to see the light of day on October 30th. We'll believe that when we see it on the shelf at Best Buy or the bootleg man's table, whichever comes first.

Eve's Album Gets Pushed Back Again

So much for those two singles that Eve dropped this summer. All that promotion was for nothing as her next CD has now been pushed back from its October 16th release date to sometime in 2008. If you recall correctly, this is the second time the CD has been delayed, having originally been slated to drop this past August.
Uh oh, this doesn't bode well for E.V.E. Could it be that she's the new Mya, or worse yet, Amerie? We'll see just how soon in 2008 the Pit Bull In A Skirt's CD Here I Am comes out. We won't be holding our breath.
